Pride can really mess with your faith!

Wow, pride can really mess with your faith! Check it out...

... He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6

James is quoting proverbs 3:34 and the same verse is quoted in 1 Peter 5:5. When God repeats things in His word you know it's important.

The concept here is simple but must be understood. When you're believing God for something you're in faith for some of His grace. His grace is everything good that He can possibly give to His children. We receive it by faith. When we let pride into our thinking it disrupts the process of God's blessing.

Let's take a quick look at what pride is. I see two kinds, there's the "I got this" kind of pride and the "I'm not worthy" kind. The first says "Okay, I can go ahead and believe for anything! God, I'll let You know if I need any help." The latter says "I'm just so pathetic, God would never bless me."

The danger with the first is that you can get out ahead of God and think your believing for God's will in your life but your really believing for YOUR will in your life! Your faith is in your faith at that point and not God. The second one puts you in a place where you are actually trying to manipulate God into doing what you want Him to do and not following His leading at all. Both of these things God will resist according to the scripture we just read.

It's like the two ditches on either side of the road. You dont want to drive your Faith Mobile into either one. You want to stay in the middle believing God, making the adjustments He is prompting you to make.

The really good news is that God promises that if we can keep with Him and His faith system we get the blessing. He tells us in 1 Peter 5:6...

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.

See how it's up to us? We have to do the maintenance in our thinking and get rid of any pride we identify there. That's what we do when we are praying and studying the Word. We are asking God to help us to see the things that hinder Him from working in our lives and pushing them out. If we just pay attention to what is going on with us and making sure we are focused on what God has told us, directly and through His Word, we can be blessed the way He wants us to be.

Live well.
